Quinn announces 'Humane Pet Treatment Day'

February 27, 2010 (CHICAGO) He proclaimed the day, "Humane Pet Treatment Day."

Quinn was joined Saturday by representatives from several animal welfare groups.

During the recession, many pet owners have been forced to give up their four-legged friends.

"If you are losing your home or something, don't leave your pet because you're just leaving it there to die. Take it to a shelter; take it to a rescue. We're overburdened, but we'll make do," said Steve Zorn of Precious Pets Almost Home.

The show continues Sunday at McCormick Place convention center.
