Daley: Boswell won't conduct fire cmsr. investigation

March 6, 2010 (CHICAGO) He said embattled Chief Compliance Officer Anthony Boswell will not conduct the investigation of Chicago's top firefighter.

Boswell is on 30-day suspension for allegedly mishandling another earlier sexual harassment claim.

In addition to accusing Brooks of sexual harassment, a fire department auditor says that Boswell did not look into her complaint.

Brooks denies the sexual harassment allegation and has taken a leave of absence.

"These allegations, which are really serious-- anytime you have an allegation like that-- that he saw fit to step aside – it's really important," Daley said.

Daley spoke after cutting a ribbon to open Montclare Senior apartments of Avalon Park, a seven-story building with 40 studios and 60, one-bedroom units.

The mayor also said Saturday his wife, Maggie Daley, was feeling much better and was beginning rehab. Mrs. Daley had surgery to strengthen her leg Friday as she battles cancer.
