"She's feeling much better, and now she's going to do a little rehab for, I don't know how long. But that's part of it," Daley said.
The mayor said he didn't know when Mrs. Daley would be able to go home.
"They're gonna play it day-by-day. First, sitting up and things like that. Eventually, walking, because she's had a hard, difficult time walking," Daley said delivering an upbeat medical report about his 66-year-old wife.
Mrs. Daley is in Northwestern Memorial hospital, where during a two-hour operation Friday, a steel rod was inserted into her right leg. It had been weakened by a tumor.
The mayor calls the first lady a fighter and says the family is strong.
