High-tech tests can tell us a lot about our health. But new research finds knowing your family history is still one of the best predictors of stroke risk.

Doctors from Boston University studied more than 3,000 people. They found adults whose parents suffered a stroke were more likely to have one themselves And those whose parents had a stroke before age 65 were four times as likely to suffer a stroke themselves at a younger age.

If you have a family history of strokes, make sure to let your doctor know. Lifestyle changes and medications can help reduce your risk.
