The Southtown Star is reporting the punishment.
The fight happened last month at Rich Central High School in Olympia Fields. Stanley Cain was beaten unconscious.
The fight apparently started over accusations of a stolen cell phone.
Police may be investigating allegations that a teacher told a student to erase video of the beating recorded on a cell phone.
Neither police nor school officials would comment on the existence of the video.
