State unemployment rate increases

New unemployment figures for Illinois were released Tuesday showing the rate at its highest level since August 1983.It now stands at 11.3 percent, which is higher than the rate for December.

February job numbers are expected to be released later in March.

Since the recession began in December 2007, llinois has lost an estimated 407,000 jobs.

The state figures are higher than the national rate of 9.7 percent.
