Anxiety: Massage or music?

Finally, there's nothing like a relaxing massage to soothe anxiety. Or, is there?

A new study finds massage does a good job of soothing stress -- but no better than the cheaper approach of relaxing while listening to soft, soothing music.

The study in the journal Depression and Anxiety shows that patients on average had half the symptoms of anxiety three months after getting a series of 10-hour long massages.

But, scientists were surprised to find that massage didn't reduce anxiety anymore than lying down and listening to enjoyable music. They say music could be a more cost effective option for people with generalized anxiety disorder.
