Researchers: Salty diet possibly linked to cancer

A salty diet is thought to increase the risk of high blood pressure, but there's also concern it may have a link to a form of cancer.South Korean researchers say a salty diet may increase the risk of stomach cancer by 10 percent.

How the salt is consumed also may play a role.

Researchers reporting in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition say it may have more to do with salt used as a way to preserve foods, such as pickling.

The link would make sense for Asian countries and east European countries where salt is more widely used as a preservative.
