Study shows x-rays can miss some fractures

March 26, 2010 Doctors from Duke University say x-rays fail to spot up to nearly one-third of breaks in the area.

In a study, the doctors rechecked the x-ray results of 92 patients using a more details scanner called MRI. They found 35 fractures had been missed.

Researchers say it is worth using MRI, as well as an x-ray, if doctors are in any doubt, especially with patients with a traumatic hip or pelvic injury.
