Chicago police sgt. rescues person from burning vehicle

A Chicago police sergeant rescued a man from a burning vehicle early Saturday in the South Side Beverly neighborhood.

About 2 a.m., a Chicago police sergeant saw a vehicle that had crashed into a tree in the 9900 block of South Seeley Avenue and pulled somebody inside out of the vehicle, police said.

The sergeant suffered burns to his hands and was taken in "stable" condition to Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers in Evergreen Park, police said.

The victim was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with burns to the body, police said. An age, gender and condition were not immediately known.
