Adding soy supplements may not improve blood sugar control in older women with a high risk of type 2 diabetes.

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reports that researchers in Hong Kong studied nearly 200 post-menopausal women who either had elevated pre-diabetes blood sugar levels or were in the early stages of diabetes.

The subjects added soy supplements to their regular diets for six months.

Doctors say the patients showed no long-term benefits in blood sugar levels from taking the soy products.
