The Illinois Tollway's board of directors has confirmed the first woman to lead the agency. Kristi Lafleur previously worked as a deputy chief of economic development and recovery for Gov. Pat Quinn. She also served as a liaison between the governor's office and state economic development and transportation agencies.

In a special session Friday, the tollway board voted unanimously to approve her appointment. The head of the board and a selection committee recommended Lafleur for the post last week. She starts her new job April 19.

The agency maintains and operates 286 miles of interstate tollways in 12 northern Illinois counties. About 1.4 million drivers use the tollway system each day.
