Weis talks about March crime stats

April 9, 2010 (CHICAGO)

With the warm spell last week there was an increase in killings for several days at the end of March and early April, but as of Friday there are as many murders this year as last. The number totaling 80.

Police Superintedent Jody Weis says that's not good enough.

"The violence we have to endure is absolutely unacceptable, most of the incidents are gang related and of course they all involve the use of illegal weapons, something we will continue to focus on and address," said Weis.

Weis says his department will have zero tolerance for illegal parties that often lead to violent crime. Officers will enforce curfews and will be deployed to hot spots where they're needed the most.
