Durbin speaks at Chicago immigration reform rally

April 10, 2010 (CHICAGO) The rally brought together a variety of groups, including the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee rights.

Durbin, who is Illinois' senior senator and the U.S. Senate's assistant majority leader, said he and President Obama support the demonstrators' cause.

"In the name of all who fight for social justice, in the name of the families who go to bed with tears in their eyes facing deportation and separation, in their name, we cannot fail. We must pass immigration reform. We must pass it this year," said Durbin.

Durbin says if four or five Republicans join most Democrats in backing the legislation, the U.S. Senate will approve it.
