A 34-year-old South Shore man faces firearm charges after a foot chase led to a convenience store cooler.

Police say they responded to a call about a man with a gun on 71st Street around 9 a.m. Monday, which led to a pursuit. Police say the suspect ran to 70th and Paxton, where he entered a convenience store. Police followed and say they were told by the storeowner that no one had entered.

Police say they forced their way into a locked cooler in the back of the store, where the suspect was apprehended. Police also say during the chase, the suspect dropped a weapon, which they recovered.

Marc Thomas, 34, of the 5700-block of South Michigan Avenue is charged with one count of possession of a firearm by a felon. The storeowner, Tarik Falaneh, 40, of Oak Lawn, was charged with one count of obstructing an officer.
