Study: Video games have little effect on sleep

Apr. 15, 2010

Anecdotal evidence has long suggested that playing violent games before bed could impact sleep.

The small study involving 13 teenage boys found it took only marginally longer for the gamers to fall asleep compared with those who watched a soothing nature program.

Researchers noted that the study has limitations, specifically that the teens playing video games did so for only 50 minutes, which is not typical in many households.

The study appeared in the Journal of Clinical Sleep.
