Illinois residents urged to become organ donors

April 18, 2010 (CHICAGO) The Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii hosted a discussion Sunday featuring donors, recipients and others who have been affected by organ donation.

Illinois Sec. of State Jesse White also addressed the audience.

"I ask that, if you're alive and well, give blood. If you're no longer here, give organs. And when you've done those two things, you will have made a positive impact on society, considering the fact that one person can provide life or improve the quality of life for 25 individuals," White said.

He also reminded everyone that, in the state of Illinois, residents must formally sign up to become organ donors. Potential donors can sign up at any facility for renewing driver's licenses, by calling 1-800-210-2106, or online at www.lifegoeson.com.
