Stimulus funds are paying for a makeover at Chicago's Federal Plaza that will make an underground postal facility more green.

Construction fencing is up and work on the $27 million project is scheduled to begin next week. Workers will replace waterproofing material, add insulation and repair damaged caused by water leaks below the granite tile surface.

New insulation and lighting in the post office sorting facility will improve its energy efficiency by more than 20-percent.

Restoration work will also be done on the plaza's Flamingo art piece.
