Evanston cabbie not guilty in alleged assault

April 29, 2010 (CHICAGO)

A jury found Fred Batrony not guilty of sexually abusing and kidnapping a 25-year-old woman last July.

The woman testified that she was attacked in the back of his cab after he picked her up in the Lincoln Park neighborhood.

Batrony testified that the woman was drunk and that she made the story up because he ordered her out of his cab. He says the charges against him hurt his personal life.

"It has been very difficult. In fact, yesterday I told someone I would not even think of wishing this to my worst enemy It's been really, really a nightmare," said Batrony.

Batrony lost his taxi driver's license. He says he will not go back to driving a cab.
