Tanker trucks catch fire on I-57

Traffic was back to normal Friday afternoon following a fiery crash that shut down Interstate 57 during the morning rush.

Two semi-trailers crashed in the northbound lanes near Halsted on the Far South Side. Both trucks caught on fire.

For at least an hour, traffic in the northbound lanes was rerouted to the southbound lanes, causing major backups in both directions.

Both drivers were able to get out of the burning trucks. One was seriously hurt, but his injuries are not life threatening.

The other driver has now been cited for improper lane usage.
