A South Side woman who was injured in a fire that killed her teenage granddaughter last week has now died. The fire broke out April 24 in the 8300-block of South Lafayette.

At the time of the fire, 72-year-old Frankie Gilmer was home with her 16-year-old granddaughter Cierra Thomas. Thomas was found in the basement where the fire started. She died the following day.

Gilmer died of smoke inhalation over the weekend at Loyola Medical Center in Maywood.

Fire investigators ruled that the fire was caused by an electrical problem in the basement.
