People will get pre-paid Mastercards in exchange for guns during gun turn-ins on Saturday in Chicago.
On Thursday, business leaders from the Little Village Chamber of Commerce presented a check to the police department to support the effort.
Police say almost 19,000 illegal guns have been turned in under this program since 2006.
"Working with the community is the only way we know to stem the level of violence within the city," said Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy Director Phillip Hampton.
Gun turn-ins will be held Saturday at 22 locations around the city.
