The iPhone may have met its match.

Sales of Android-based smart phones beat the iPhone in the first quarter of this year in the United States.

Market researcher NPD group says Android-based phones like Motorola's droid and Backflip moved into second place with 28% of the sales market.

The iPhone held 21% of market sales.

Leading both of them is Blackberry's Research In Motion with 36% of the smart phone market.
