E-mail advertising fake jobs draws hundreds

May 10, 2010 (CHICAGO)

Following the instructions in the email they showed up at the West Side offices of state senator Ricky Hendon. The message said construction jobs were available.

Senator Hendon says he has a good idea who is responsible, calling them punks and provocateurs. One of those who responded is a carpenter who says she hasn't had steady work in two years.

"I'm ready to work and this is like a game, I'm just like shocked," said Enilda Roman, job seeker.

"It's a damn shame these ignorant people would send out a hoax like that knowing how desperate people are for jobs," said Sen. Hendon.

Hendon says those responsible are trying to make him look bad.
