Betty White, 88, got her start during the first days in television and now the Oak Park native is more popular than ever.

White was the host on "Saturday Night Live" last weekend after a push from fans on the social networking website, facebook. Now her fans are campaigning to have White host the Oscars.

Johnny Corcoran of Chicago Ridge started one of the latest Facebook campaigns (facebook.com).

"I have seen her all my life, since 'Match Game' and on 'Golden Girls' and on 'Mary Tyler Moore.' And I was watching the SNL promo stunt she had on TV, and she told the nurse to start typing a Facebook page to get to the Oscars," Corcoran said. "That was the Friday before she hosted, and I decided to do it. I thought it would be a fun campaign."

Corcoran said his facebook page been getting about 1,000 people per hour signing up.

"It's an awesome site. People are very responsive to it," Corcoran said. "She is a gem. She is witty. She's quick. The demographics for her are from young to old, the elderly, and I think if the Oscars has her host, I think it might do a good thing for the show this year."

Corcoran said White has been told about it and thinks it is a joke.

"As long as we have facebook, she will be employed for the rest of her days," Corcoran said.
