Chicago man arrested in Peoria for murder

Police in Peoria say they've arrested a recent parolee and charged him with murder, attempted murder and endangering the life of a child.The murder victim is 41-year-old Orvette Davis. Police say she had been strangled and severely beaten. Relatives say she was in Peoria visiting family.

Police say Davis was found dead in an alley with her crying infant granddaughter lying nearby in a puddle of water. Her granddaughter was admitted to a hospital with a head injury. Family members say she will be fine.

Police are not saying what the relationship is between Davis and her alleged killer, Edjuan Payne, 40, of Chicago.

Police say Davis was reported missing Wednesday and found Thursday morning. Payne was picked up a short time later.
