Daley: Gulf oil spill is 'unbelievable'

May 22, 2010 (CHICAGO) Daley and other officials cut a ribbon to open the show, which continues through Tuesday. It is one of the biggest conventions to come to Chicago.

The mayor and Louisiana's top restaurant official were asked about the spill.

"This is unbelievable. Why don't we ever have a back-up system for an oil well in the middle of the Gulf?" Daley said.

"It could have a devastating impact on the marshes and the estuaries, where the fish grow, and where they breed. And if it gets in the marshes, it will be another environmental disaster," said Louisiana Restaurant Association President and CEO Jim Funk.

Funk also stressed that despite the spill, seafood now being served in Louisiana restaurants and shipped nationwide is safe.
