May 25, 2010 (SKOKIE, Ill.) --Two workers were freed from a collapsed trench in north suburban Skokie Tuesday. The private contractors were working Tuesday morning when the trench partially collapsed around them and dirt buried them up to their waists.
The 29- and 37-year old men were conscious, alert and talking throughout the ordeal. It took 20 minutes to get the first man out and a bit over a hour for the second man.
Both were taken to Saint Francis Hospital in good condition.
