Under a plan approved by the Chicago City Council's transportation committee, standard bike racks would be replaced by new racks designed by local artists. Those artists would be commissioned through the city's department of cultural affairs.
Funding for the artistic bike racks would come from local neighborhood chambers of commerce or other community groups. The proposal now heads to the full council for consideration on Wednesday.
