The impacted area includes the 4900- and 5000-blocks of both Baring and Magoun Avenues.
A water main broke early Monday morning on Baring avenue and caused part of the street to cave in.
The East Chicago Water Department recommends that residents in the area boil all cooking and drinking water for 5 minutes before consuming it until further notice.
