The Green Chicago Restaurant Co-op announced Tuesday its inaugural class of environmentally sustainable restaurants.
"Guaranteed Green" helps diners identify and support local restaurants that have taken significant steps toward protecting the environment.
Restaurants must meet environmental standards in several areas.
"Diners who frequent these restaurants will be eating at pesticide-free, hormone-free, locally-raised products that are not genetically modified," said Dan Rosenthal of Green Chicago Restaurant Co-op. "They'll be supporting a business that cares about the environment."
"Guaranteed Green" Chicago restaurants have an emblem placed in their front window featuring the sprouting green fork.
