No serious injuries in boat fire

June 24, 2010 (CHICAGO)

Coast Guard and Marine units were sent to the scene. They used hoses to extinguish the flames.

Three people on board jumped in the water to save their lives. One of the passengers says a radio may have shorted out, triggering the fire. They tried to put it out with fire extinguisher but couldn't.

"We just got to the back of the boat and then just went in the lake and by that time in a matter of minutes the boat was fully engulfed," said Kerensky Rhoden, passenger.

A passing boat picked the three people up about 10 minutes after they jumped in the water. The boat's owner suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
