Chicago's Public Schools are partnering with 40 churches to provide a summer recreation program that organizers say will serve at least 1,000 students.

Mayor Daley was joined by school and church leaders today to announce the Safe Haven Safe Summer initiative.

The program first appeared last winter as an alternative program for kids during winter vacation.

"With school out, remind everyone that you have a responsibility for your child and your child is the most sake rid thing god has is the most sacred thing God has given you and you should nurture them to have a wonderful environment in the summer," said Daley.

In addition to sports, art and science related activities program leaders say safe haven will include lessons on conflict resolution.
