Lilith Fair is back

Chicago is one of the stops on the summer tour. Kelly Clarkson, Mary J Blige, Vedera and Kate Nash are among the performers touring with Lilith Fair founder Sarah McLachlan. From 1997 through 1999, Lilith Fair, lilithfair.com, was one of the highest grossing touring festivals in the world. More than one-and-half-million fans attended the concerts that raised over 10 million dollars for national and local charities.

Lilith Fair concert will be July 17th at the first Midwest Bank Amphitheatre in Tinley Park. Chicago singer-songwriter Katie Todd, lilithfair.comwinner of Lilith Fair's local talent search, will open the concert featuring 10 other performers and bands. One dollar from every ticket sold will be donated to the Chicago Women's Health Center.

Founded by Grammy-award winning artist Sarah McLachlan along with Dan Fraser, Marty Diamond and Terry McBride, Lilith Fair was the only tour of its kind: a celebration of women in music. McLachlan had become frustrated with concert promoters and radio stations that refused to feature two female musicians in a row. Bucking conventional industry wisdom, she booked a successful tour for herself and Paula Cole. At least one of their appearances together – in McLachlan's native country of Canada - went by the name "Lilith Fair" and the name was given to the all female festival. Those earlier Lilith Fair tours featured McLachlan along with artists like Sheryl Crow, Christina Aguilera, Erykah Badu, The Dixie Chicks, Carly Simon, Missy Elliot, Corrine, Bailey Rae, The Pretenders, Nelly Furtado, Jewel, Queen Latifah, Indigo Girls, Sia, and Tegan and Sara.

"Being a part of Lilith Fair was inspiring on so many levels, McLachlan says. "Besides discovering new music everyday and sharing the stage with an incredible array of talented women, it was wonderful to see established and new artists alike have the opportunity to play in front of much larger or more diverse audiences than usual."

Nearly 6 months ago, Lilith Fair, in partnership with ABC Entertainment, announced that the all-female festival would make its return in the Summer 2010. The U.S. Lilith Tour kicks off on Friday, July 2 and ends on Monday, August 16. There will be 11 artists on each date; the line up will change in each city, except for headliner Sarah McLachlan and the Lilith Local Talent Search Ourstage.com winner who starts the day.
