Chicago cop charged in towing extortion plot

The FBI says a sixth Chicago police officer faces charges in connection with a five-year investigation into bribes and extortion involving automotive towing in the city.Juan Prado surrendered to authorities Thursday. The 45-year-old is an 11-year department veteran.

He was charged with three counts of attempted extortion.

Prado allegedly steered business to a tow truck operator following three accidents in 2006. He then allegedly solicited more than $1,100 from the operator who was secretly working for the FBI.

A listed phone number for Prado couldn't be located and a department spokesman didn't have the name of an attorney for Prado.

The FBI says the investigation is ongoing. Nine people have been charged, including six current or former officers.
