Shedd vet helps with oil clean-up

A Shedd Aquarium veterinary technician was on her way to the Gulf Coast Tuesday to help wildlife impacted by the oil spill.The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) estimates 583 seat turtles were stranded in the oil spill area as of June 28th. Of those, 432 died.

Mayela Alsina will work at the Audubon Society's sea turtle and marine rescue facility in New Orleans. A spokesperson for the Shedd said the aquarium's other animal and marine experts stand ready to travel to the Gulf Coast if requested to help in the aide effort.
