Chicago-area motorists could pay more to use certain lanes of the expressways and tollways during rush hour, according to federally funded study. The concept is called congestion pricing.

The study of traffic patterns on local expressways and tollways says special toll lanes on expressways and tollways could ease congestion during rush hour.

The Metropolitan Planning Council and the Illinois Tollway conducted the study.

Chicago has the third-worst traffic congestion in the nation.
