Chicago police are telling residents in the city's Lincoln Park community to be alert after a home invasion and burglary.

It happened at about 7:30 a.m. Sunday in the 1900-block of N. Lincoln Ave.

Investigators say a man entered a home through an open window.

When confronted by the homeowner, he started choking her.

The victim broke free, and the man got away through a bathroom window.

Police are advising residents to check windows and doors to make sure they're locked.
