Study: Olive oils might not be 'extra-virgin'

July 16, 2010 A report from the University of California Davis says many extra-virgin olive oils do not meet the international standard for being labeled "extra-virgin."

Researchers analyzed popular brands and found that 69 percent of imported olive oils and 10 percent of domestic oils are not pure, cold-compressed olive oils as their label suggests.

The study's release comes as the U.S. Department of Agriculture works to define new standards for "virgin" and "extra-virgin" oils.
