Mural to be unveiled in Logan Square

July 22, 2010 (PRESS RELEASE) The mural project at the MAAF, being presented by the non-profit I AM Logan Square community organization, will take place on a 140' white wall under the Blue Line tracks at 2930 West Medill, just west of Milwaukee Avenue.

The mural project takes place during the Festival hours, which are:
· Friday, July 23 - 10 AM to 5 PM
· Saturday, July 24 - noon to 5 PM
· Sunday, July 25 - 11:30 AM to 5 PM

The Festival arts and music presentations will span from 2250 through 2800 Milwaukee Avenue in the Logan Square community.

"The goal of the project is to enliven and inspire others by painting an uplifting skyline and green landscape to make every day a bright day in Logan Square," beams artist Iris Iris Pasic. The "Limit" mural project has been generously supported by local retailer Designer Stone Outlet with paint donated by Sherwin Williams.

During the 2010 Milwaukee Avenue Arts Festival, aspiring artists of all ages are invited to paint alongside volunteers. Face painting provided by area residents from the Logan Square neighborhood.

Lots of other action will take place at the mural site, where sidewalk chalk will transform asphalt into masterpieces! Also nearby will be the Festival's Urban Agriculture and Gardening Fair, "Grow It, Eat It, Compost It," where you'll find a chance to engage, learn and observe demonstrations and life size models for worm composting, raised beds, urban chickens, rain water collection, composting bins, hoop houses and low tunnels from community practitioners. The University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners and Chicago Conservation Corps Leaders and Explorers will also be present to answer questions and have conversations with beginners, enthusiasts, and seasoned growers alike. This event is supported by many organizations and gardens including Cob Connection, Friends of the Paseo Prairie Garden, Grounds For Growth, WeFarm America, AltgeldSawyer Community Farm, Ujima Community Farm, Richmond Tub Garden, Logan Square Chicken Co-op, Marie's Garden Club, Chicago Conservation Corps (C3), and CROP (Chicago Rarities Orchard Project).

The MAAF is presented by the non-profit I AM Logan Square community organization in partnership with Magic Hat, AT&T, Comcast, and many local businesses. The event boasts artists from Chicago and beyond, a critically-acclaimed diverse music line-up on three stages, local restaurant vendors, sidewalk sales, outdoor café seating and complimentary trolley rides to transport Festival goers from one end of Logan Square to the other.
