Firefighters, police teach kids to fish

July 30, 2010 2:22:38 PM PDT
Some Chicago youngsters spent the morning fishing in the Jackson Park lagoon.

The kids got pointers from Chicago Police officers and firefighters who shared their fishing expertise as part of the Hooked on Fishing program.

The volunteers did most of the preps- like baiting the hooks- and then explained how to cast a line and reel in a fish.

The lagoon contains bluegills, bullheads and other fish.

Several children were rewarded with catches. But most of the fish were so small they had to be thrown back.
