Officials at American Airlines are looking into how seven puppies aboard a flight from Oklahoma to Chicago died Tuesday night.

They were among 24 puppies being transported on a flight from Tulsa. The plane took off an hour late because of weather delays in Chicago.

A spokesperson says the airline has transported 500,000 pets over the past five years. Thirty three have either died or were lost.

Necropsies are being done on the seven puppies to see how they died.
