Alligator captured on Chicago River bank

August 6, 2010 (CHICAGO)

The president of the Chicago Herpetological Society confirms one of its members set the trap overnight in the area of 3400-block of North Rockwell. The alligator was caught about 5 a.m. John Archer says after the reptile is evaluated, they will find an appropriate place for it to live.

Archer says the alligator may have been someone's pet that was set free after it got too big.

Last August, another alligator was pulled out of the Chicago River. It was found on the Near South Side.
