City leaders push peace at weekend events

August 7, 2010 (CHICAGO) Jackson said people are afraid to leave their homes. He believes its time for federal intervention to help stop the violence.

Jackson also called for the hiring of 1,000 new police officers.

Daley thanked those present saying they care about their children.

Families were invited to attend the third annual South Side Peace Fest Saturday at Olive-Harvey College. The event tries to show children alternatives to violence, such as getting involved in sports or the arts.
