The 64th anniversary of India's Independence Day was observed at Daley Plaza Wednesday.

The cultural program was hosted by the Association of Indians in America and the event highlighted the culture and accomplishments of Indo-Americans.

August 15th, 1947, is the date India gained its independence from British colonial rule. The day's chief guest speaker, the consul of India, Chicago, expressed his pride in the accomplishments of Indo-American people.

"You have by your behavior and your activities raised the name of the land of your birth, the land of your adoption....your contributions are recognized on both sides, in India and the United States of America," said Hon. Ashok Kumar Attri, Consul General of India, Chicago

There will also be an Indian Independence Day parade Sunday on Devon between Western and California.
