Chicago woman gets gig as first MTV Twitter jockey

August 13, 2010 (CHICAGO)

The first TJ, or Twitter jockey, is 23-year old Gabi Gregg.

Gregg lives in Chicago and was given the title for a job that many people her age would call a dream come true.

For Gabbi Gregg, it is a little overwhelming.

"When people say things like that, you're making history, it kinda freaks me out," said Gregg.

Gregg was hand picked to try out for the job after MTV discovered her blog, "Young, Fat and Fabulous." It's a website she designed for plus-sized girls.

"There was nothing really out there for girls targeted at my demo, so I wanted to fill that void and combine my love for fashion and writing," said Gregg.

Her followers helped her win the MTV competition in a nationwide vote.

As the first TJ, her job is to schmooze with celebrities and artists and Twitter all the behind-the-scenes moments.

"I met Usher on my second day because he was there filming," said Gregg. "So, I'm going to be twipic-ing, red carpet events, asking my followers what they want to hear from who I am interviewing - so it's a really cool, engaging type of role."

Her first big job as an MTV TJ will be covering the Video Music Awards.

"It's a really big deal, and I hope I don't go too crazy on the red carpet and faint or something," said Gregg.

Gregg is moving to New York this Sunday to officially start her job.

She has a one-year contract and a nice six-figure salary to get her going.

Since there's never been another TJ, MTV is expecting Gregg to basically write her own job description and pave the way for future TJs to come.
