The mosquito infestation triggered by last month's floods is expected to last another ten days, according to the North Shore Mosquito Abatement District.

The district is reporting one of the largest outbreaks of biting mosquitoes in as many as 20 years.

The district checks 11 traps in the area and within a week's time reported an 800 percent increase in mosquitoes.

The current batch is not the breed that carries West Nile virus, although those could be on the way soon.

West Nile-carriers thrive in stagnant water that collects in gutters and ditches.
