August 18, 2010 (CHICAGO) --
A fourth veteran female alderman will retire from Chicago's city council. Alderman Virginia Rugai has represented the 19th Ward on the Far South Side for 20 years. She chairs the council's committee on energy, environmental protection, and public utilities.
The 64-year old said she's confident she could win a sixth term, but decided it's time to leave.
Aldermen Vi Daley from the 43rd Ward, Helen Shiller from the 46th, and Mary Ann Smith in the 48th Ward are also retiring next year.
The 50 member council has 17 women.
