Firefighter caught with firearm on Far SW Side

August 19, 2010 (CHICAGO) Police say they stopped Salvadore Cheversia while he was driving near Mount Greenwood Park Tuesday night in the 3700-block of West 111th St.

Officers suspected he was not wearing a seat belt. During the traffic stop, police say they found a loaded Colt revolver in the car's glove box.

Cheversia reportedly told police he bought the gun at the Southwest Side park where he was playing softball.

Cheversia is charged with failure to wear a seat belt, failure to produce a driver's license, and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
