Man wanted for attempted child abduction

Chicago police are looking for a man who allegedly tried to abduct a child at a local school.

According to a police alert, the offender approached an 8-year-old girl who was waiting to be picked up from Spencer Elementary School, located at 220 N. Lavergne on August 18. The man allegedly offered the girl a dollar and when she refused and began to walk away police say the offender attempted to grab her by the arm. The girl got away from the man and ran into the school, police say.

Authorities describe the offender as a black male, 60 to 70 years old with gray hair. He was last seen wearing a dark blue shirt, dark blue suit pants and gym shoes. They say the man has no facial hair.

Police urge anyone with information to contact them. Also, they encourage the public to call 911 to report any suspicious person or activity.
